The Nintendo Switch is often the first step into the world of hardcore gaming. Having a Nintendo Switch at home means a non-exhaustive repository of amazing games with meaningful experiences across every genre at your disposable. Nintendo has released hundreds of games to date appealing to every age group, but today we are going to look into 5 games that every teen will love. Whether you love action, adventure, survival, puzzles, or role-play, here are some games that will keep you on your toes.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Set almost a century after Hyrule’s defeat at the hands of Calamity Ganon, this evocative and exhilarating open-world game takes teens on a journey of limitless discovery, exploration and adventure. Awaking from a 100-year slumber, with no memories and no kingdom, unarmed and defenseless, Link must navigate perilous fields and forests by walking, riding, paragliding, climbing or even snowboarding, to discover what has become of the ruined country of Hyrule Kingdom. Scale mountain peaks and towers to survey the land and forge your own paths, battle wild enemies, hunt beasts, raid enemy camps and scavenge ingredients for food and elixirs, acquire weapons like bows and arrows, shields, and armor, visit villages, solve ingenious puzzles inside hundreds of shrines, find clothes to shelter from the elements or get special powers, utilize special technology, and avoid traps to save a ruined Hyrule from a great evil. In addition to exploring a land of unprecedented size, there are plenty of side quests to extend gameplay.
Minecraft
This iconic, timeless game hardly needs any introduction but let’s see if its Nintendo Switch edition stays true to the legacy. Teens will absolutely love this building, mining, and exploring sandbox adventure game that takes players across infinite worlds, and through strange dimensions where their survival skills will be put to test. Build everything from the simplest of homes to the grandest of palaces to complex electrical contraptions.; sky is the limit! You can choose to play in the creative mode where you can build structures and projects with unlimited resources or tighten your belts and join the survival mode, where you will have to eat, sleep and fight off enemies by constructing your own tools, weapons and armor. Teens will love the ease of playing Minecraft on the go and effortlessly joining online multiplayer with friends on their own Switch devices. However, the only drawback is the lack of in-game audio chat but you can always overcome this challenge by playing with your friends in the same room.
Fire Emblem Series
If you want to try your hand at a tactical RPG, the Fire Emblem series has just the thing for you. Our personal favorite is the Fire Emblem: Three Houses where you wear the mantle of a notable mercenary-turned-professor who is invited to teach one of the three mighty houses of the Church of Seiros, namely Black Eagles, Blue Lions, and Golden Deer. Each house is brimming with impressionable students from the three main nations, and the house you choose will decide your path. When war comes knocking on the continent of Fódlan, you will lead your students in strategic, turn-based battles. What teens will love about this game is the unlimited amount of choice both on and off the battlefield. The game promises drama and intrigue no matter which of the three houses you choose.
Fortnite
No list of best Nintendo Switch games for teens is complete without a mention of this beloved online shooter game. The storyline is the same – you drop onto an island with other players, frantically collect the best weapons that you can and then go defensive and build forts or offensive and take out opponents one by one to be the last man standing. You can choose the traditional building mode or choose to just focus on running and gunning. The best thing about Fortnite is that each match represents an entire, self-contained dramatic arc, which means that you can engage in hours of play without getting bored. With Switch, you can play with your friends in the same room or around the world, and even play on the go.
No Man’s Sky
“No Man’s Sky” is an open-world exploration and survival game, where you can visit countless procedurally generated planets, each with its unique ecosystems, creatures, and resources. The vastness of the universe is impressive, and the sense of discovery is one of the game’s most appealing aspects. You’ll need to manage your resources, build and upgrade your equipment, and protect yourself from environmental hazards to survive. Like other survival games of this genre, you can build your own bases on planets, and this feature allows for creativity and personalization. The game has a storyline and a variety of quests and missions, which adds purpose to your exploration.
